Where did the Super Bowl trophy get its name?

The Vince Lombardi Trophy is the name of the trophy awarded yearly to the winning team of the National Football League's championship game, the Super Bowl. The trophy, initially inscribed with the words World Professional Football Championship, was at one time referred to generically as the World Championship Trophy.

The trophy, renamed in 1970, The Vince Lombardi Trophy received its name from the legendary Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi after his sudden death from cancer; the trophy’s name was changed in order to honor his victories in the first two Super Bowls.
